The Providence Spot That's A Charming Mix Of Tropical & Merry This Month
When we think of Christmas (or Chrismukkah for those who watched THE OC back in day…in true Rhode Island fashion, I went to hs with the brother of one of the creator’s of that show and heard something about how it was actually based in part on Classical High School) cheer, the Botanical Center at RWP doesn’t immediately spring to mind. Open since 2007, it’s the largest indoor PUBLIC garden in all of New England with 2 greenhouses, 17 varieties of palm trees, a koi pond, and a mini waterfall.
We were there last night for the tail end of their tree lighting, however, and it was an utterly enchanting mix of tropical and merry: Think an abundance of red and white poinsettias, white lights galore, and whimsically attired trees throughout.
It was also nice and warm, particularly appealing if like me, you’re always cold. I mean, if you’re on the run with Frosty the Snowman (“Happy Birthday!”), you probably wouldn’t want to take him there, but beyond that, I think it’s an unexpected, splendid spot for your next hol-i-day outing this month.
Also, if a family wreath making workshop and a locally-made art sale sound like just the things you want to be part of, no need to dash thru what’s left of the snow. (Pssst…The storm the other day set some kind of record apparently.) Simply check out their Facebook Page for more specifics and ticket getting how-to’s.
