The Local-ish Boutique Hotel Where You'll Want To Staycation With Your SO This Season

When I say Mystic, Connecticut, do Mystic Pizza and maybe JULIA immediately spring to mind? Okay, that’s all well and good, but there’s definitely more to the story than those. (And, not to brag or anything, but this past winter I had a facial with the aesthetician who used take care of the skin of another Mystic Pizza actress - Annabeth Gish - when she lived in the RI area and worked on the Showtime series Brotherhood.)

Mystic also happens to be the location of a beautifully restored historical house turned boutique hotel that you probably aren’t acquainted well with…yet. I’ve had lunch (that included a mocktail and a vegetarian version of one of their pastas) on the Veuve Clicquot umbrella’ed patio and afternoon tea there a few times and can enthusiastically say that it would be a delightful destination for your (or my…hint, hint) next Spring or Summer getaway.

A small, stylish hotel by the same people behind Rhody resorts like the Ocean House in Watch Hill and the Weekapaug Inn, Spicer Mansion is everything you'd expect and still more. The former sea captain's house (circa late 1800's) has been reimagined as an eight bedroom oasis (with so many of the original details, as evidenced in the ceiling pictured below, having been rescued and renewed) tucked away on a picturesque side street that's quite literally a few minutes walk from the town. If you’d rather ride, you can hop on one of the bikes or hop in the black Bimmer, both of which are on hand for guests to use.

The weekend itinerary for guests runs the gamut from brunch and Blood Marys (or Maries if you’re a smitty) in the gorgeous dining room to yoga on the lawn, weather permitting of course. It would be an outstanding spot for a weekend reboot with your SO or ideal for your dream local-ish wedding. Side bar, I could see the Duke and Duchess of Sussex - aka, Harry and Meghan - staying there if they were ever traveling through Conneticut. It just has that comfortably luxe feel.
