This Newport Hotel Has Winterized Their Patio Lounge And Wow

See this content in the original post

The Chanler in Newport has winterized their patio (adding a heating system and clear, tent-like panels) overlooking East Beach and the Cliff Walk and it’s been on my wish list for the last month or so for so many reasons, not the least of which being their elegant yet welcoming (no snootiness) vibe.

As with most places today, we had to make a reservation in advance (because, I’m guessing, it was a weekday we were able to same day it) specifying outdoor dining. When we arrived we self-parked, masked up, and made our way over to the stone patio area.

It’s definitely more comfy than actually sitting out-of-doors when it’s 40 degrees, but the really great news is that you can still feel a draft — I grew up in an old house, so drafts are something I’m familiar with — which means that fresh air is indeed circulating. (Any other time this would have not be something to celebrate, but this winter I’m doing a happy dance over it.)

Another thing I’m excited to share is that our sandwiches were out of this world. Now, it can be challenging to find meat free eats, but these veggies sammies were not any of those run of the mill, let's-just-throw-grilled-veggies on some bread numbers. These were autumnal inspired, scrumptious delights featuring a cheesy, almost pizza crust like focaccia bread with roasted brussel sprouts, apple slices, and purple onions. We also opted for side salads instead of fries because we’re all about 80/20 and yesterday was not a splurge day.

So, if you’re looking for somewhere to escape to this winter, might I humbly suggest a meal on the Chanler patio?

I mean, even the hour we spent felt like a staycation. The relaxing views of the water. The enchanting surroundings (it used to be a private manse back in the 19th century). And a menu with eats for even the pickiest person in your household.

The Chanler is located at 117 Memorial Boulevard in Newport, RI.
