There's A Virtual Tour Of This Rhode Island Village & It's Everything We Need RN

There’s a lot to miss right now during quarantine.

Me? I really miss Wickford Village.

Over the years on the blog, I’ve said repeatedly that it’s our Stars Hollow. Gilmore Girls, and Amy Sherman-Palladino, fans know what I’m talking about! (And, side bar, there’s so much about that Netflix reboot A Year in The Life that still irks me.)

Instead of coffee at Luke’s, there was (and will be again) lunch at Shayna’s — if, that is, you lucked out and could get a seat.

A pizza slice from Mickey’s, way better than anything Rory and Lorelai could order from Antonioli’s.

Or wine and dining at Tate’s with my friend entrepreneur, artist, and actress Janelle (our Lorelai???) from Gossip.

Also, all the adorable shops and galleries. Feel free to hum the GG theme at this point, sung by none other than iconic singer-songwriter Carole King and her daughter Louise. (Music trivia and history lovers everywhere will know that the song originally appeared on CK’s 1971 blockbuster album Tapestry.)

If things were different, no doubt I’d probably be spending a great deal of time there this month, especially for Daffodil Days. It’s right up there with Wicked Tulips and 10,000 Suns, you guys!

So, what with it being week 5 of the stuck at home season, I was ecstatic to find out yesterday that there’s an online tour of The Wick up on the I LOVE Wickford Village Facebook Page and Instagram as of a few days ago. (It was originally a FB LIve, but thankfully it’s still available to view.)

And who amongst us couldn’t use this kind of lovely distraction these days?

As I understand, it was after a Zoom call with all the merchants of the Village, following the news of all non-essential businesses having to close, that Lori Lyons, the owner and proprietor of Beauty And The Bath, and Julie Beebe of JW Graham/YES! Galleries came up with the (brilliant!) idea for bringing all of us fans of The Wick there virtually.

They then looped in the people behind New Deal Horse & Carriage. (I hear that the horses really enjoyed the opportunity to leave the farm and be out and about again! We took a tour with them a few years ago and it was so informative and fun.)

The end result was a delightful trip thru town, with all the shop keepers coming out to wave and share how we can shop their stores whilst socially distancing. You can also click over to WickfordVillage.org for a complete list of contact info, social media, and sites for your old and new faves on Main and Brown Streets.

So, yessss, do go on over to the I ♥️ Wickford FB Page (or their Insta) to watch, but also know that there’s another one in the works that we’ll be able to enjoy real soon.

That’s all for now.

Stay well,

Patty J
