PVDonuts & Me, A History

I love a beautiful photo!

Pretty sure that’s how I first discovered PVDonuts on Instagram back in 2016 (late winter or very early spring, I think) which as far as the Providence food scene goes, may as well be 100 years ago. At that point I hadn’t tasted a single doughnut, but I had a feeling that they were embarking on something magical and groundbreaking in terms of local eats.

With that in mind, when they later announced they’d be popping up at Hope & Main, I proceeded to drag my husband out of the house early one Sunday morning in April for a drive over to 691 Main Street in Warren. Thankfully we managed to slip in early and secure spots near the front of a line that within minutes seemed to grow exponentially. (See photos below.) By the time we made it out with our box containing vegan strawberry, vegan lemon poppy, glazed, and coffee cake varieties, the line of those wanting donuts had snaked out the door and down the hall.

Next came their sharing a space with Sin Bakery when Sin was over on Allen’s Ave. (pre their Broadway bakery and cafe) and then of course, their Ives Street shop which opened to the public in September of that year. For the record, I was absolutely ecstatic to be invited to the soft opening of their permanent space along with so many of this state’s most high profile foodies.

Now, as of last week-ish, PVD has reopened their Ives storefront. They have also started offering delivery in Providence. And (get ready!!!) they have begun testing no contact delivery in other cities and towns around the state.

So, if you’re isolating outside the capital city, you can still enjoy some delish, freshly made donuts — without having to leave your house. I mean, how awesome is that? I’ve actually placed an order for this week and will be talking more about my experience over on Instagram tomorrow. (PS ~ Two of my nieces who are quarantining nearby have graciously offered to help out by sampling some. Lolololololo )

For info about their menu, delivery options and much more, do check out @PVDonuts on IG and PVDonuts.com.
