Coffee Grinder in Newport

Another open air spot, one where you can soak in some sweet views whilst sipping Italian coffee and maybe having a nosh?

S’il vous plaît! (Pardon my French, I’ve been reading the new Andre Leon Talley memoir and he’s forever lapsing into anecdotes about Paris, Chanel and Karl, who wasn’t French btw, and the like.)

Whether you fancy your coffee hot or iced, you'll appreciate this charming, under-the-radar-ish spot that also offers a fantastic waterfront experience. (Side bar, I will never ever understand the allure of iced coffee in the fall and winter, but whatevs.)

I mean, if you’re like one of my brothers who insists he only wants the scoop about places in Newport that overlook the water, you’re really gonna ADORE.

Water Views

Tucked away behind dozens of other shops and eateries on Bannister Wharf, we were pleasantly surprised to stumble on Coffee Grinder, a small but mighty coffee shop that also offers pastries, sandwiches, fresh fruit, and dozens of other drinks, a few years ago. We were spending the afternoon and prior to that day, had not realized that this teeny tiny coffee shop existed.

A java mirage, if you will. (I don’t think they are on social and my best guess is people don’t check in on FB or IG because they want to keep it from getting overrun with new customers, fans.)

Hellooo, coffee drinking and sitting out on a deck gazing at Newport Harbor: No one needs to ask me twice!

Pre-COVID Coffee at CG (C’est moi.)

Pretty close to postcard perfect. Remember when people used to send those? (I just discovered a bunch from a trip I took overseas about twenty years ago that I’ll be holding on to. They are souvenirs from pretty much every restaurant or landmark we visited in France back in the 90’s.)

Coffee Grinder is located at 33 Banister’s in NPT.
