We Just Picked Up Mugs From These Iconic RI Makers In West Kingston & Wow
Sure, we could have hopped online and ordered some mugs from Peter Pots Pottery, but it’s way more fun to motor over to their rustic, cabin-like space, situated right next to an actual babbling brook (offering a few moments of much needed zen during this doozy of a summer), in the woods of West Kingston.
True story, I studied all of their coffee mugs and tea cups before finally deciding on two of their Grandfather Mugs which are solid (trust me, you cannot knock these babies over, something all my fellow klutzes out there in the world will appreciate) and sturdy, yet still comfy to hold — and just the right size for those of us who cringe at the thought of drinking anything from dainty china cups.
Also, they are a tad pricey at $24 a pop, but I firmly believe (fingers crossed) they are going to last for years to come. Furthermore, if like me you are looking to support local Rhody businesses right now during the pandemic, you cannot beat crafted by hand stoneware from a company started by two RISD alum back in 1948. (Over the years their creations have also been exhibited at Rhode Island School of Design and MOMA.)
And their cozy brick and mortar in WK is something to see: Now, I’m not someone who dreams of the log cabin life, but their shop is pretty neat. It’s like something out of a Hallmark channel movie wherein the heroine leaves her big city life to run her family’s biz in the country, yada yada yada…
