The Outdoor Dining Igloos Are Back At This Newport Resort And Wow

See this content in the original post

According to what I was able to suss out online, the igloo trend popped up in Europe first a few years ago, with restaurants, bars and hotels setting up glass or plastic dining domes in order to maximize their outdoor spaces during the colder months.

Eventually it made it’s way to Rhode Island.

And then last winter, well, it really became ubiquitous.

One of our most enjoyable experiences with these bubbles last year was at Gurney’s in Newport: Each had a different and thoughtfully executed theme (see the Lisette Rooney photos below for a little peek at ours), there was also a comfy fire-pit area, and the views of the Newport Pell Bridge were (no surprise) absolutely stunning.

Throw in a superb menu (they actually had a grilled cauliflower “steak” for me and they even went out of their way to customize a mocktail or non-alcoholic cocktail for the hubs) and a wait person who doesn’t mind that you’re all about getting great pics for social and your site (it had to be said, lol) and we’re talking a truly fantastic time.

The terrific news today is that as of October 29th the igloos are indeed back on Goat Island and (drum roll pls.) in a few weeks Gurney’s will be rolling out a whole cold weather style spectacular in conjunction with the opening of their skating rink. (That rink is another Insta Famous spot starting in November btw.)

Yep, I hear that there’s a lot to look forward at their upcoming Apres Skate Winter Wonderland pop-up including a special menu of drinks and eats, vintage games, and more.

Fair Isle sweaters, pom pom beanie hats, and humming the Charlie Brown (Vince Guaraldi) “Christmas Time Is Here” music are of course all optional.

Reservations, though, are required and there are minimums as far as spend goes.

As always, if you motor over because you read about it here, please do let them know you found out via Patty J and PattyJ.com.
