Keeping It Rural

I was chatting with a friend a while back about how we almost never find any fruits or vegetables grown in Rhode Island (or even Massachusetts) at our grocery store du jour.

Well, I just stumbled across this farmstand in Warren — and I think you’re really gonna dig it!

From the just picked beets and greens to the salad turnips and native tomatoes, everything looked gorgeous. (See photos below.)

They also had local eggs and for the carnivores out there, a frig stocked with meat.

On top of all that, hats and tees with the name of the farm on them, perfect hang around gear for this summer.

I’m talking about the Little River Farmstand in Warren where the folks behind the original LR in Exeter have recently put down roots. (In addition, there are lotsa cute dog photos on their IG and that always gets extra points in my book.)

They started in Exeter, having rented land there for the past 7 or 8 years that they will apparently continue to utlize for the foreseeable future. Their main crops are salad and micro greens, tomatoes, carrots, and herbs.

The stand itself is an '“honor” one which means it’s unmanned (greattt news for those trying to keep a low profile and avoid people right because of you-know-what), it’s open 7 days a week, and there are a variety of ways in which you can pay for your items.

For those who adore using Venmo, that’s an option. You can also use more traditional forms of payment such as cash, checks or even plastic. (Think you can leave your contact info and they then follow up with you re: your transaction if you want to use a credit card.)

Furthermore, they started offering home delivery ly and their site is completely lovely — you can shop their offerings there, they share recipes, it’s just an entirely pleasant experience all around.

Find them at 39 Long Lane in Warren and online at LittleRiverFarmRI.com.

As always, if you connect with them after reading this, please let them know you found out about them via Patty J and PattyJ.com.
