We Visited A Terrific Doughnut Shop In Mystic, Connecticut

From the same fam who brought us the award winning Sift Bake Shop and MIX at Sift Rooftop & Bar, Young Buns Doughnuts has been open at 46 West Main Street in Mystic, Connecticut since the Summer of 2020.

Me? I only just found out about it two (2) weeks.

The hubs and I motored over to check out the rooftop.

No surprise that the line for Sift was out the door and down the street. (I mean, owner Adam Young was voted Best Baker by Food Network, so…)

Later, we decided to take a quick stroll around the village; that’s when I spotted YBD — and it was hopping!

People milling around outdoors and in, clutching bags and boxes of sweets, some taking photos for social against the side wall featuring their logo.

So, of course, we couldn’t leave the area without crossing the street and getting a closer look.

We found out later that a friend of ours who lives in the vicinity is a serious fan of their gourmet Doughnut Holes (they are more substantial as far as taste and density than the mass market ones you may have snacked on in the past); they were certainly a hot seller the day we popped in.

But we really had our eye on their full size doughnuts, big enough to share with a friend or two or your significant other.

Baked from scratch daily with the intention that they’ll be sold out by 3pm, they are divided into two camps: Staples (signatures they carry year round including their Young Buns Butter Crunch and Mystic Cream Pie) and Monthly Specials (a shifting menu of seasonal offerings which for July 2022 means Strawberry Shortcake, Tiramisu, Raspberry Jelly, and more).

Regulars also go gaga over their Blueberry Cake, the Triple Chocolate, and their gluten free options such as the Apple Cider that’s made with real apples.

I absolutely loved the Vanilla Glazed, and we even picked up a half dozen of the 4th of July holiday ones with red, white and blue sprinkles as a same day gift for someone else.

YBD is open 7 days, from 7am until 3pm, so plan accordingly.

PS — On top of the treats, they also carry New Harvest Coffee and branded merch such as baseball caps and cotton tees.

As always, if you go after reading THIS, please let them know you were inspired by Patty J and PattyJ.com.
