Tacos And Terrific Water Views At This New Restaurant In Coventry, Rhode Island

We have to taco about this place!

Lake Taco has opened on Tiogue Lake in Coventry — from the same folks who have brought us Black Oak Kitchen which is also on Tiogue Avenue, Back 40, and more — at the address that many still probably associate with Nino’s, an in-demand banquet hall style event space for weddings, anniversary parties, and such that closed back in 2014-ish.

Well, this cheery and charming restaurant for casual, Mexican-inspired lunch or dinner at 446 Tiogue is a lively addition to the area where locals and visitors alike can make NEW memories.

First off, I absolutely love the aesthetic: The gigantic Tiogue Lake mural that greeted us in the entry way is delightful and fun, and I for one think it adds a certain something to the whole entire experience. The interior is full of other whimsical little nods and winks to tacos and the like. I mean, it’s just so darn cute.

And the outside? Views of the lake are prettier than ever during the summer.

But wait, I can’t write this and not mention the food and sips: I had a fizzy mocktail (which is kinda what I’ve been gravitating towards more oft than not these days), but their drink menu is quite extensive with options like a house marg, cucumber mojito (sounds pretty great), draft beer (including RI’s own Whalers, Grey Sail, and Shaidzon), and vino (including pinot from Gooseneck…can’t wait for their new location ovder in Saunderstown btw).

I was excited to see so many vegetarian plates on the menu, and I went to town ordering up a storm: the chips + queso, the veggie tostada, and The Austen (delectable soft tacos made with marinated and grilled shiitake mushroom).

No worries carnivores because they have BBQ By The Pound, a Houston Quesitaco, and a Nacho Burger. Burger lovers take note because in addition to that house chili and queso topped one, they have a Smoke House, a Classico (bring your appetite bc it’s two massive patties), and a classic cheese burger — their Ode To Oak — on a pretzel bun which is what the hubs ordered.

He inhaled it, and gave it an enthusiastic two thumbs up.

Also, a great friend who lives in the vicinity said she wants to go and that it’s always busy, so do plan accordingly.
