A Darling Cafe In Providence For Bagels, Babka, And Egg Creams

See this content in the original post

Go for the knishes, egg creams, and cinnamon buns, then stay for the chai, babka, and black + white cookies.

With the closure of Greenline Apothecary (and their gorgeously old time-y soda fountains), I don’t think there’s anywhere else in Rhode Island where you can get an authentic egg cream these days.

Open about a year and a half, Oat Bake Shop — a self-described “Jew-ish” inspired bakery cafe in the Mount Hope section of Providence’s East Side that’s a spinoff of PVDonuts — is a sunny and pastel hued (see pink La Marzocco espresso macine below) oasis of top shelf coffee and tea drinks as well as sweet and savory baked goods .

Fans of Oat frequently name the cinnamon buns and Jerusalem bagels as perennial faves.

My husband loved that the chai he ordered was pipping hot (not always the case at other cafes, that’s all I’m saying).

Me? I ate that entire knish in the photo above a few hours later and it as outstanding. It was big enough to share with at least one other person but hey I was starving. And served that babka roll to one of my brothers when he stopped by for coffee the next day. (He LOVED it.)

Find Oat Bake Shop at 130 Cypress Street in Providence, Rhode Island.
