New Year, New Restaurant: What's At Steak In South County?

I'm not a carnivore, so I brought someone along to Tilly's Cheesesteaks who is - my husband. Last week, the two of us motored over for lunch. At first sight, the place (opened on Kingstown Rd. in So. Kingston since last month) definitely has a casual, rugged vibe, with it's blackboard-inspired walls, steel trays in lieu of plates, and (of course) all those cheesesteak sandwiches. The most surprising thing about their menu is that they actually offer a handful of appealing options for non-meat eaters like myself. That's so rare! (Get it? Rare!) That being said, I ordered their Texas Caviar Salsa (black eye peas*, black beans, bell peppers, avocado, and scallions with tortilla chips) and my better half had their signature Tilly's Philly (prime beef, cheddar queso, carm onion). The service was on point, our food was delish and there was a nice turnout of other peeps also enjoying a midday meal. So, even if you live 'on the other side of The Tower' (Someone who lives in So. County recently told me he divides RI'ers up into his neighbors and those who live beyond The Hannah Robinson Tower on Tower Hill Rd in SK.), it's worth logging a few extra miles for some #comfortfood there.

*Black eye peas are supposed to be good luck when eaten in the New Year, right?

Ciao for Now,
