There's A New Croissant Cart In PVD & It Sounds Amazing
Sure, you could pack your striped tees up in your Away suitcase and make a plan to jet to Paris for sightseeing, selfies at The Louvre (Saw on Twitter that someone has suggested setting up a a copy of the Mona Lisa out front where tourists can take their phone photos, thus alleviating some of the foot traffic indoors.), and croissants.
But full disclosure, the pastries themselves are neither French in origin nor guaranteed to be freshly made there. I say this because I just came across several articles online saying that (1) croissants actually made their way to France by way of two Viennese bakers in the late 1830’s, and (2) a good deal of the Parisienne ones are made from frozen dough. (The late Karl Lagerfeld wasn’t French either btw.)
So, if you’re looking to indulge in some buttery, flaky deliciousness this season, no need to cash in those frequent flier miles or that paid time off.
Let me suggest instead staying local and stalking Butter Bang Croissants over on Instagram and in Stories.
Like the pin in the IG pic below says, the owner Brian bakes - and he bikes! (The addition of the bike, in my opinion, adds even more interest for all the Francophiles out there in the OS, aka, Ocean State.)
Via the cart, and a bulletproof pastry case (!!!), he offers a variety of 🥐’s, including classics like almond and chocolate, and coffee. (Speaking of which…other makers who started out with carts and then saw their biz blow up? The Nitro Cart/Bar and Hometown Poke come to mind.)
After a little light Insta stalking of my own, I wanna say that the cart has been in operation around Providence since September of this year. One thing for sure, it’s definitely going to be one of the big gets (as in, let’s find it and GET a croissant and a foto) for Rhode Island foodies and food bloggers (and maybe YOU too???) in the coming weeks.
