There's A Festival Of Lights At This Local Village This Weekend & It Sounds Fantastic
Last week I motored over to everyone’s favorite village, Wickford, where once again they’re bringing the holiday spirit and style in a major (a fave modifier of both Andy Cohen and Victoria Beckham) way.
Whether you’re looking to shop local (The Captain’s Table, Green Ink, YES! Gallery, Serendipity, Teddy Bearskins, Wickford Gourmet Factory Outlet, Wickford Collection, Gossip, and more!), surround yourself with some old timey Christmas magic (They boast one of the most extensive arrays of 18th century houses in the entire northeast, most of which are still used as residences to this day btw.), take some festive photos to show off on social (WHO isn’t these days?), or a mix of all three, the Wick should be at the tippity top of your list right now.
Especially this coming weekend when they’re hosting their 34th annual Festival Of Lights, also known as four (3 and a half?) days of yuletide excitement and merriment with plenty to see and do, including:
the town tree lighting this Thursday, Dec 5th at 6pm
Santa’s arrival BY BOAT (Pretty awesome, righttt?) on Friday, Dec 6th at 5:30pm
Santa’s elf parade on Saturday the 7th, starting at 12noon
horse drawn hay rides with Santa on Sunday the 8th from 1 to 4pm
Also, definitely take time to wander Brown Street and Main because pretty much everyone (residential and commercial…there’s a contest that the businesses compete in every December in fact) makes an effort to decorate for the season. Enjoy the vintage, old school aesthetic on display on doors, front stoops, fences, windows, etc. It’s really quite charming and of course, photogenic - perfect for your Instagram Stories or Facebook feed.
Dress code? I’m loving a La Canadienne (waterproof, warm and stylish) or Sorel Joan of Arctic Wedge boot right now. Winter in the OS (that’s Ocean State, guys) is all about cozy and comfy footwear that you can walk around in without grimacing in pain. Save the sky high heels or platforms for fancy Christmas parties when the actual walking will be minimal. Also, give in to hat hair because we lose something like 7-10% (at least) of our body heat by not wearing something on our heads during the colder months.
