There's A Painting Party At This PVD Hotel This Week & It Sounds Terrif

Pull those overalls or paint splattered chinos (4 out of 5 stylists and closet organizers agree, it’s either one or the other in just about everyone’s wardrobe…Catherine Keener’s artist character Nina’s ensembles from episode 38 of Seinfeld also come to mind) out of the mothballs and lace up a pair of canvas kicks because the folks at the new Graduate Hotel in Providence are inviting you to come on down and try your hand at creating a limited run work of art in their mezzanine area.

Starting today through this Thursday the 26th, channel your inner Banksy, Keith Haring, or almost famous (also the title of what happens to be both Cameron Crowe’s and Kate Hudson’s best movie thus far by the way) RISD student artist and walk, bike, or motor over to 11 Dorrance Street for a painting party of sorts, a public art project they’re calling Make Your Mark On The Biltmore. Hosted by none other than the people that I’ve heard - fingers crossed - will finally be fixing the landmark hotel’s famous glass elevator that’s been out of commission for who knows how long. I mean, anyone who lived in or adjacent to Providence back in the days when that elevator was first unveiled will remember what a big deal it was! (My brother used to go downtown after school with his friends to catch a ride in it and then regale us with descriptions of the whole experience.)

Yes, they’re providing the paint and the soundtrack. It’s up to you and your crew to dazzle the crowds with your fancy brushwork, on display only until this weekend however. The resulting masterpieces will be visible until then, after which point the wall space will be covered with something in keeping with the updated decor and revamping going on there as we speak. But chin up about your PVD art show being short lived because on the third day (Thurs., March 26), there will also be food trucks! I mean, who doesn’t look forward to and love anything and everything to do with THOSE these days?!?
