These RI Makers Are Putting A Local Spin On Corduroy This Fall And It Looks Amazing
October is the unofficial kick-off of corduroy season around these parts.
If you’re looking to put more of an updated, modern-ish spin on it without committing to say a 5 pocket pant or a blazer (don’t know about you but this week I’ve been bombarded with emails from Alex Mill on the topic of their corduroy suit), then RI’s own Parched has a little affordable something that might just do the trick — namely, their brand-y new 6 panel cord caps in 4 colors featuring woven labels (ideal for those sensitive to tags) and brass closures.
They’re selling for $28 a pop and if you’re toying with introducing something in a rust hue (also available in melon, black and navy) to your wardrobe this fall, it’s a fairly easy way to dip your toe without the sartorial second guessing or buyer’s remorse.
Also, it’s a completely non-cheesy way to sport and share some local love: You can get one with either a vintage script felt P for Providence or RI for Rhode Island.
On top of that this fall they also have a comfy long sleeve pullover (with a felt RI on the front in that same subtle script) that unlike a traditional sweatshirt, is not at all bulky and thus easy to layer underneath your go-to transitional jacket or blazer right now.
I bought one in navy blue the other day from their booth at the Providence Flea (more about THAT in a sec) and the really great news is that it washed nicely and didn’t shrink up. Parched also recommends air drying which I do with most things anyway, so no drama there either.
Now, back to the PVD Flea…The other day was my first trip over to the outdoor market on South Water Street overlooking the river and know what? Everyone was masked up and I felt like they were doing a fantastic job in terms of making sure all attendees adhered to the safety protocols.
If you’re interested in scooping up some goodies from Parched, or another marvelous local vendor, you can do that and more this coming Sunday at what I believe is the last and final Providence Flea of the season.
