This Marvelous Garden Center In Southern RI Has Reopened, So Put The Petal To The Metal
Whether you’re looking for some flowers and plants to spruce up your patio or yard (speaking of which stay tuned for a blog post later this week about a backyard trend you’re probably going to be seeing in your feeds all summer) or you’re wanting to get out safely and stretch your legs somewhere other than your own neighborhood (right there with ya), I have tree-mendous news. The Farmer’s Daughter has reopened and a trip over to 716 Mooresfield Road in South Kingstown might be just the thing to lift all our spirits right about now.
Farmer’s has been a favorite of mine since year one of this site when I spent almost every day exploring different parts of Rhode Island. Unbeknownst to me at the time, this stunning garden center and tree farm, the likes of which I’d honestly never seen before around these parts, had been open since 1998. The owner, Sarah Partyka, had studied horticulture at nearby (just a stone’s throw down the road in fact) URI. If you’ve motored over in the past, you’ve probably seen S.P. hard at work, along with her team, making the greenhouses and surrounding outdoor spaces look so marvelous!
Whenever people talk about Farmer’s, you’ll see words like creative, fabulous, and WONDERFUL being used —and also, in some cases, an overabundance of exclamation points. (Elaine from Seinfeld would NOT approve of that last part, the lapse in grammatical judgement I mean.) Once you pay them a visit, within a few minutes of stepping out of your car or suv, you’ll know why. The only thing missing, I’ve always said, is some kind of cute coffee shop. Someone on IG offered up wine bar, too, so you know that I’m not the only who feels so passionately about the place.
Another important detail you should know? Sarah Partyka & Co. are serious about sustainable farming. Subsequently, all the plants and produce there are grown using natural composts and organic ingredients. And it’s been my personal experience, whether buying plants, flowers or vegetables, that the all around best ones are those grown without funky chemicals and what not.
So, with proper social distancing including masks or an appropriate face covering (light weight scarves work too - as long as they are wrapped in such a way as to shield your mouth and nose), why not a ride over to shop the outdoor aisles at Farmer’s this week? (They are asking that if you see a lot of vehicles in their lot that you please come back another time when there are not as many people on the premises.)
For complete details, I highly recommend checking out their site: www.thefarmersdaughterri.com.
