You Can Channel Your Inner Newport Socialite & Picnic On A Mansion Lawn This Summer

I’ve been anxiously awaiting the reopening of Green Animals Topiary Gardens in Portsmouth (the oldest still in existence garden of its kind in the whole entire country) and today I stumbled across some happy news regarding GATG and two other properties that are also under the umbrella of The Preservation Society of Newport County.

Starting this weekend, the Preservation Society is offering tickets — $18 for adults and $8 for children — for their NEW Stroll The Gardens & Grounds experience which gives you access to not only Green Animals (so completely perfect, I might add, for all your Instagram photo ops and IG Story updates) but also the outdoor spaces at both The Elms and The Breakers.

Now, in true Rhode Island fashion, I was born and raised here in the Ocean State and only just toured The Elms last year. (I can’t be the only one, just sayin.) I can tell you after that experience, though, that the exterior is incredibly beautiful. And if I had to guess, I’d say that you are probably already well acquainted with the land that The Breakers sits upon.

But wait, there’s more…

From what I understand, you can even bring a picnic lunch and dine al fresco on either one of those lawns. I mean, how great is THAT? It’s the first time, in my memory anyway, that such a swell opportunity has been available. So, if you’ve ever dreamed of channeling your inner Newport socialite or indulging your love of the movie version of The Great Gatsby starring Robert Redford and Mia Farrow, here’s your chance. (Okay, back in the early 1970’s, Gatsby was actually filmed at Rosecliff and Marble House, but I say CLOSE ENOUGH.)

All with proper social distancing and masks, too, of course.
