The Rooftop For Your Next Newport Night Out With Your Favorite Person

So classic Newport in terms of design and decor, but did you know that Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt apparently had the Vanderbilt Grace built in 1909 as a manse for his then mistress Agnes O’Brien Ruiz? 

Ditto!

Ultimately he ended up breaking things off with her after his family made him choose between her and his money (a story that’s darn good conversation filler for your next night out with your fave people in Newport this summah). 

I've had a bunch of outstanding lunches in their courtyard over the last 5 or 6 years. Their rooftop bar, though, is what most people really gush and go on and on about.

The thing is much of what you'll probably come across about it online refers to it as a hidden gem or a best kept secret. 

Well, it kind of is and it kind of isn't. 

See, it's really all about who you’re talking with.

Frankly, as long as I've been blogging about amazing places around Rhode Island, people have been messaging me about it, urging me to go.

The views of the harbor with the Pell Bridge off in the distance are off-the-charts impressive. Spectacular, really, even if you can't get there in time to see an actual sunset. 

You Know The Drill.

Your best bet this year is to plan for early-ish and mid week. They are open 7 days, weather permitting, and you will want to check out their site for specific hours, etc.

It’s on a first come, first serve basis, no reservations, so it is chance-y, but well worth it.

The Vanderbilt (now an Auberge Resort) is located at 41 Mary Street in Newport, RI.
