There's A New Casual Lunch Spot In Providence And It's Amazing
I’ll admit it.
Over the years, yours truly has driven by The Sandwich Hut on North Main probably thousands of times without realizing that it’s kind of a big deal around these parts.
Long story short, people line up down the street for their signature Italian grinder, The Allitalia, their other tantalizing submarine style sandwiches, their cookies (fairly certain they are baked in-house), and the cold drinks.
Let me just say here and now that their Italian Tuna with lettuce, tomatoes, and banana peppers is excellent and the large size is more than enough for two people to split. (I alone — all by myself — scarfed down the entire thing, but when you go, you may want to consider a small.)
It was just like a grinder that one of my Italian relatives (on my mom’s side) would have made in their kitchen back in the 1970’s or 80’s.
They also have a Veggie Grinder that’s on my list for NEXT time.
Yes, indeedy, that was my tremendous lunch at their NEW location — called The Hut — on Carpenter Street in Providence, only a few steps from the lovely Luongo Square and The Avery bar.
Frankly, I went after seeing a friend whose opinion I value posting about their original eatery on No. Main.
I actually arrived after 1pm yesterday just as the furniture for their back patio area was being delivered and assembled. (Didn’t snap any pics but it’s a sweet space for al fresco dining on a mild day this fall.)
The man behind the counter who was taking orders was very pleasant, and I’m guessing he is the son of the original owner of the No. Main location.
The whole time I was there, they were busy, busy with folks from the neighborhood in and out to either pick up or place midday orders.
As a matter of fact, I ran into a wonderful entrepreneur friend yesterday, too.
She is a serious fan of their food.
And now that I’ve eaten there, can totally and completely see why.
You won’t wanna sleep on THIS one; this is the HOTTEST SPOT for lunch in the whole entire state right now.
Find The Hut at 245 Carpenter Street in Providence. (The original is at 1253 North Main Street.)
