The New Restaurant That's Giving Newport Something To Taco About
La Vecina is back open this week after a little hiatus.
The pop-up turned ghost kitchen that’s in the process of becoming a dine-in restaurant (in the space right next door to Bar ‘Cino on Washington Square in Newport proper and helmed by Cino’s Executive Chef Mariana Gonzalez-Trasvina) started winning over folks last year with their street tacos (as someone who is eschewing meat, their squash and mushroom ones are my jam), tamales, sweets (including tres leches and a Mexican chocolate torte), and sips (yes, there is Sangria) to-go.
The whole entire menu is a nod to Chef Mariana’s childhood in Mexico City and the dishes that her family would prepare. (Don’t know ‘bout you, but as I get older, I’m finding I appreciate the food and memories from my childhood a lot more.)
The NEW space on Washington Square is set to open this Spring (39 days and counting until we can ditch the mittens and puffers).
Until then, you can always hop online and order tacos (to paraphrase their Insta: everyone’s making tacos but…😉), antojitos (small bites or apps), dulces, and Cocteles de la Casa after 4pm here.
Also, temps are supposed to be pretty mild this Saturday, so if you’re out and about in NPT in the afternoon, why not order some takeout from LVT (La Vecina Taqueria) for din din at home? (PS — They also offer curbside pick-up if you’d rather stay in the car and jam out to your fave tunes on the radio.)
As always, please do let them know you found out about them via Patty J and PattyJ.com.
