We Revisited This Euro Inspired Providence Cafe & It's As Delightful As Ever

After brunch-ing at The Salted Slate on Wayland Square yesterday afternoon, we decided to pop into Madrid (you may remember it as the former site of Teas & Javas) down the street.

Haven’t been in a while and let me tell you that the whole entire experience from walking in to cashing out was enchanting — and I didn’t even have to use any of my frequent flier miles!

Not sure about you but it’s the closest I am going to come to a long weekend or week long vacay in central Spain anytime soon.

Yes, the bright, bustling and elegant but not snooty cafe is unlike anywhere else in the cap city and all of Rhode Island!

Upon walking in, I was greeted with gleaming cases fully stocked with a marvelous selection of treats, including minis, cream puffs, cannoli, tarts, puff pastries, croissants, and so much more. Pssst — I also understand that the owner is baking on the premises most days.

The people behind the counter were helpful and patient while I hemmed and hawed (hey, it happens…) over which sweets to purchase.

I left with some mini eclairs, puffs and a Costrada that we ended up slicing into smaller pieces. (Everything was a big hit last night after dinner and frankly I’m still obsessed with the gold cardboard tray inside the to-go box that they placed all the pastry on.)

Also: Their coffee menu is a dream, especially for any java fans who are craving (or CURIOUS about) authentic Spanish coffee culture.

Think Cafe con leches or Americanos. Or how about a Cortado or two? (Speaking of which, my last trip to Europe was a real refresher in how to order overseas.)

And once the weather warms up, I’m betting they’ll open up the front doors there and have more bistro tables out front. It’s srsly the best spot in PVD for a Cafe Con Chocolate and some top notch people watching come May or June.

Find Madrid European Bakery And Patisserie at 199 Wayland Avenue.
