The Casual Charlestown Restaurant The Locals Adore For Breakfast & More
Odds are you’re already well acquainted with the Fantastic Umbrella Factory and Galapagos which ultimately gave rise to Dave’s Coffee (and now the son of the founders of those two businesses has opened a micro coffee shop on Matthewson Street in Downtown Providence called Little City Coffee & KItchen) in Charlestown.
Another gem in that sweet coastal town — that a friend looped me in on not too long ago — is the Sly Fox Den Too, a cas and family run eatery offering Native American inspired comfort food (for ex., instead of English muffins, their Benedict is made with corn cakes) for breakfast, lunch and (on Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays) din din.
The team there, including the chef and proprietor who is Wampanoag (aka, People of the First Light), creates everything with a strong emphasis on local and in-season ingredients.
I’ve had their Indian taco, without the meat, and it’s marvelous! A flavorsome medley of beans, rice, lettuce, and tomato on a crispy deep fried shell. (Soooo good that it’s only a matter of time before some chain restaurant tries creating a knock-off.)
Regulars and newbies alike rave about those tacos, their stuffed French toast, their egg breakfasts and hash browns, biscuits-n-gravy, and so much more.
Definitely call in advance for their hours: Right now, it looks as though they are closed on Tuesdays and open for dinner 3 nites a week.
Find the Sly Fox Den Too at 4349 South County Trail in Charlestown, Rhode Island.
