The Marvelous Bakery And Cafe On Main Street In Wakefield, Rhode Island
I first found out about South County Bread Co. from the folks at North Koffee (in North Kingstown) where on any given weekend you’ll find a small assortment of their bagels and such — until they sell out of course, which happens quickly (snaps fingers).
Well, my friend Liz and I actually visited So. Co. Bread on Main Street in Wakefield yesterday and we were in awe of everything they are doing.
Run, don’t walk or dilly dally, friends.
First off, you bread-a believe that this bakery and cafe space is terrific. Indoor and outdoor seating. Autumnal decorations. The team is also quite nice.
And plenty of different breads and pastries — as well as coffee drinks and teas — to choose from. (Psssst —Yes, you can indeed buy a bag or two of the South-Kingstown-based Seaworthy Coffee to take home, too.)
We tried their FOCACCIA MUFFIN, a delectable and genius hybrid bite that the locals love: It was warm (just out of the oven….it doesn’t get much better than THAT, people) and bursting with flavor. I could probably eat one every single day.
They had so much to pick from as far as loaves and baked goods, again all made fresh on the premises. We’re talking danish (cheese, fruit…we had some sort of breakfast danish with green, cheese, an egg and it was DIVINE), pain au chocolate, hot cross buns, and much more.
Also, carb lovers take note — their olive loaf is the stuff that dreams are made of.
Regulars rave about their rosemary and ambrosia loaves, the cookies, and (surprise!) their scrumptious donuts.
Also: Wakefield is picture postcard Fall right now, so why not motor over to So. Co. Bread some morning this week for breakfast or a to-go order?
They are open Wednesday thru Sunday from 7:30am to 1pm.
