The Posh New Cafe On Providence's East Side For Croissants And Coffee

The much-anticipated Brown Bee Coffee has their official grand opening today — Saturday, September 14th.

I just so happened to be in the neighborhood on Friday morning, so yours truly strolled over and low and behold, they were already open for business. (Luck must have been on my side because I wandered in on what must have been their soft opening.)

Now I was a serious fan of the business that was in that space previously (Benefit Juice & Cafe) but let me just say that Brown Bee had me at hello yesterday.

Stepping thru the doorway I was floored by how luxe and downright sophisticated the interior is. The color palette is a medley of dark browns (woodwork), tans, beige, and cream.

There are plush built-in seats and marble-topped cafe tables. Also, BBC merch is displayed in an area that whispers big city boutique.

Even the light fixtures are a mood.

Before you write them off as strictly a scene, hear me when I say that this gorgeous cafe has both style and substance…and by substance I mean outstanding coffee drinks and croissants.

The croissant menu is like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. (And I pride myself on going pretty much everywhere in the state, especially cafes and bakeries.)

Yesterday I opted for the French Onion one. Yep, a FRENCH ONION CROISSANT…flaky, buttery, and onion-y (carmelized onions 🧅 ).

And thoughtfully baked in-house.

Was this close to ordering the Everything Bagel Croissant which I initially and foolishly thought was an actual bagel, color me embarrassed…told ya I was new to these types of croissants. (Should have tried that flavor, too, darn it. I hear it was a big hit at the preview tasting they held back in August.)

If you’re more of a traditionalist, you’ll be thrilled to pieces to know that they do have classic croissants as well as loaves of crusty bread.

Coffee lovers will go gaga over the lattes (I had their signature Brown Bee Latte made with honey and cayenne which is for anyone who wants something sweet yet spicy…can see it being popular once the chillier weather arrives) and pour overs.

A little bird told me recently that they may even have those cube croissants that I blogged about last year, woo-hoo! (Now I really must go back and try to get my hands on the CUBE CROISSANTS.)
