5 Classic Spots With Working Fireplaces Where You & Your Faves Can Get Cozy

Sure, Comments By Celebs continues to be one of the hottest IG’s (taking a not-so-deep dive into famous people stalking and trolling other famous peeps on the app) around, but it won’t keep you warm during the big dip in temps - and SNOW - we’re expecting starting today.

Why not clap back (That’s a thing, right?) at the November chill with this starter list of some of the best local spots that offer working fireplaces? They are, after all, a lot more fun-tastic than, say, staying home and dragging those boxes of heavy sweaters and wool scarves from under the bed or outta the cedar closet.

So, here’s to snug and warm and maybe even lighting up your mobile uploads from one or all of these locales this season.

  1. Pastiche on The Hill - Close to perfect year round, but especially nice on a brisk afternoon or evening. Meet your besties for sweets, coffee or hot chocolate, and a nice complain fest (so satisfying and an awful lot cheaper than an actual therapy session) by the fire.

  2. Camille’s, also on The Hill, because pasta and vino are life - There’s a pretty famous quote frequently attributed to Sophia Loren about how she’d rather indulge than not and yeah, THAT. So, tuck into a nice plate of pasta, order a Prosecco, and appreciate the gas fireplace in the main room.

  3. Main Street Coffee in EG - One of my nieces is a big fan of MSC and I can totally see why. Highly recommend their Espresso Martinis by the fire in the back sitting room, which true story, I only discovered a few winters ago whilst there snapping phone photos for an Instagram-related project. Anywho, it’s an ideal spot for a comfy cocktail hour or two with your so or your bff’s.

  4. The Bar at the White Horse Tavern - Yup, it’s celebrated as America’s oldest pub (Searching for a synonym for tavern can send one down quite the rabbit hole.), but have you ever enjoyed one of their signature Dark and Stormy drinks (aka, rum cocktails)? Or the Sunday brunch? When we were there on a Sunday afternoon the winter before last, the fireplace was roaring and it was swell.

  5. The Lobby at Castle Hill - The quintessential Newport experience. Sit by the fire with your friends, sip a hot toddy, and soak in the quiet elegance. It’s all very Town & Country circa 2019. (PS ~ The closest I’ve come to spotting a real life socialite in Rhode Island is the time I spied C.Z. Guest’s daughter Cornelia - who was dubbed the “Deb Of The Decade” back in the 1980’s - at the Todd Oldham Dance Party event at RISD Museum in 2016.)
