Tbh, I had no idea that the What Cheer Writers Club existed until I sat down for coffee a few months ago with Dennise of the Artclectic New England podcast (which she records at the WCWC studio) at Saint Monday over on Providence’s West Side.

I was at What Cheer yesterday - because Dennise had invited me to be interviewed on her show (That episode will be dropping, as the kids say, at the end of November.) - and was beyond impressed with what I saw.

First of all, it checked all the boxes style-wise with colorful and comfy decor, one room was more delightful than the next. (Hey, aesthetics are important to me.)

And the people at the helm on Tuesday could not have been nicer!

This new-ish non-profit (aka, 501c3) at 160 Westminster - between The Arcade and the beautiful building (wandered in there by mistake, oopsy) where the Dorrance is situated - is something you’ll want to text the aspiring and/or established wordsmith or webcaster in your life all about.

I mean, I know at least two people right now who are hard at work on the Great American novel, not to mention everyone in my circle who over this past year or two, has mentioned starting some kind of podcast.

So, if you’re a freelancer who usually works from home and you’re craving a change of scene, there’s the main room that’s a quiet space (Heyyy, let me just take this opportunity now to send out a SORRY for my loud talking to anyone who was writing away around 1pm yesterday afternoon.) that you can access daily or after hours (5-8pm M-F or 10-5pm on Sat and Sun) and weekends depending on the particular cowork package you pick.

In addition, there are also these “writer memberships” that for a super affordable monthly fee ($10-15) give you admission to monthly events, the use of their mailing address, 50% off those previously mentioned coworking packages, and more.

And regarding that more we just spoke of: As a member, you may also reserve their on-site podcast studio for only $10 an hour which is a darn good deal for anyone wanting to channel their inner Conan O’Brien (Conan’s successfully pivoted to a new format for his nightly chat fest and a well received - and entirely separate - audiocast.), Karina Longworth, or Sarah Koening (of Serial fame).

And I hear some local bloggers have been coming onboard as well. (Full Disclosure, I’m seriously considering joining WCWC. Stay tuned.)
