Tbh I had no idea that the What Cheer Writers Club existed until I sat down for coffee last fall with Dennise of the Artclectic New England podcast (which she records at the WCWC studio) at Saint Monday over on Providence’s West Side.

Earlier this year, I actually toured the What Cheer space - because Dennise had invited me to be interviewed on her show - and was beyond impressed with what I saw.

First and foremost, it checked all the boxes style-wise with colorful and comfy decor, one room was more delightful than the next. (Hey, aesthetics are important to me.)

And the people at the helm could not have been nicer!

This still new-ish non-profit (aka, 501c3) at 160 Westminster, between The Arcade and the beautiful building where the Dorrance is situated, is something you’ll want to text both the aspiring and the established wordsmith or webcaster in your life about. I mean, I know at least two people right now who are hard at work on the Great American novel, not to mention everyone in my circle who over this past year or two has mentioned starting some kind of podcast.

If you’re a freelancer who usually works from home and you’re craving a change of scene, there’s the main room that’s a quiet space (Let me just take this opportunity now to send out a SORRY for my loud talking when I was there for a workshop not long ago.) that you can access daily or after hours (5-8pm M-F or 10-5pm on Sat and Sun) and on weekends depending on the particular cowork package that you pick.

In addition, there are these “writer memberships” that for a super affordable monthly fee ($10-15) give you admission to monthly events, the use of their mailing address, 50% off those previously mentioned coworking packages, and more.

And regarding that MORE we just spoke of: As a member, you may also reserve their on-site podcast studio for only $10 an hour which is a darn good deal for anyone wanting to channel their inner Conan O’Brien (Conan’s successfully pivoted to a new format for his nightly chat fest and a well received - and entirely separate - audiocast.), Karina Longworth, or Sarah Koening (of Serial fame).

I also hear some local bloggers have been coming onboard as well. (Full Disclosure, PattyJ.com is now an official member of WCWC.) Wanna find out more and schedule a free tour of the Club? Go to WhatCheerClub.org.

*What Cheer Writers Club is located at 160 Westminster Street, 2nd floor, Downtown Providence.
