We Had Breakfast At This Charming Little Cafe In Newport, Rhode Island
This Place Is Definitely My Jam
The hubs and I were staying in Newport over the weekend and we rediscovered this absolutely terrific little cafe directly across the street from The Viking on Bellevue.
Now I have not traveled internationally in a few years (wink), but Picnic Gourmet + Cafe reminds me of somewhere fab you might stumble upon overseas, where the locals all go for incredible breakfast pastries, cafe au lait and the like.
Even better? You don’t have to stress over NOT being able to speak the language. (Speaking of which, high school French — RIP Ms. Rubiano — didn’t do much good once I finally made it over to Montmarte and Saint Germain des Pres.)
But back to NPT…I was amazed when I walked in and saw the selection of baked-on-the-premises sweets (cinnamon swirl, almond croissant, kringles, and all sorts of yummy cookies), brekkie or brunch sandwiches, coffee drinks, lemonades, and lots more.
Get there early to avoid the line (it moves fast, though, the team there runs like a well oiled machine) and grab an egg and cheese on a bagel AND a box of sweets.
When I went back again yesterday, loved seeing one of the bakers carrying a tray of just out of the oven quiches and adding them in to one of the cases.
I mean, it doesn’t get much better than that, amirite?
PS AND BTW: They also have oat milk for your latte or cappuccino.
